Fair Trade Vision

Throughout history, trade has been the cause of conflict, social upheaval, civil discontent, and even war. Trade, driven by greed, separated the world into different worlds, North and South, First and Third.

It inaugurated a dark century of colonialism and exploitation that enriched the more industrialized nations and impoverished the rest, condemning them to a cycle of poverty and environmental destruction that goes on unabated today.

Fair Trade is a movement that stands against this history of exploitation, greed and avarice. It strives to undo the historical wrong, by bringing about a trading relationship based on justice, equality and human rights.

It is a movement trying to give an example of ethical and trading that respects the rights of all concerned and is more interested in the well being of those traditionally exploited more than the prosperity and profit making of it's practitioners.

The Fair Traders pay the just prices of products determined by the social, economic and environmental conditions under which they are produced.

It is also a movement that stands against unfair trade practices that exploit the poor, use child labor, discriminate against any worker for any reason, or use financial might to manipulate prices detrimental to the well being of the producers.

Fair Trade is the way that contributes to human and social development, enables the producers and their families to live a dignified and worthy life.
